14-Year-Old Florida Boy Wins Top Prize at National Spelling Bee

Dev Shah won the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition by correctly spelling "psammophile" in the 15th round.
Dev beat out Charlotte Walsh of Virginia, the competition's runner-up, for the $50,000 first prize after 11 million people entered spelling competitions around the world.
Dev, from Largo, Florida, first competed in the national bee in 2019 and 2021 but did not win until this year.
Dev's father immigrated from India 29 years ago, and his brother attends Yale University.
Unlike last year, the bee did not require a "spell-off" after exhausting the regular word list to determine a winner.
