14-Year-Old Detained After Stolen-Car High-Speed Chase in Bloomingdale

Prosecutors charged the Bloomingdale minor with two felonies following the chase ahead of a detention hearing scheduled for August 4.

  • Bloomingdale officers spotted a stolen 2015 Hyundai Elantra around 11:15 p.m. and pursued the vehicle as it accelerated east on Lake Street, reaching speeds over 80 mph before spike strips disabled a tire on Army Trail Road.
  • The car lost control and T-boned another vehicle while turning onto Walter Street, after which officers arrested the teen following a brief foot pursuit.
  • Both the minor and the other driver sustained non-serious injuries and were treated and released from a nearby hospital.
  • DuPage County State’s Attorney Bob Berlin filed one felony count each of possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding against the 14-year-old.
  • Judge Chantelle Porter ordered the teen to remain in juvenile detention until a hearing scheduled for August 4.
