Overview

• The 14-year-old victim was found with a stab wound to her torso shortly after 10:20pm on Monday in her host family’s Edgeworth home and later died at John Hunter Hospital.
• Police arrested a 13-year-old fellow exchange student at the scene and seized a kitchen knife believed to be the weapon.
• NSW Police are working with the Chinese consulate to notify families and manage translation and legal protocols for the non-resident minors.
• Both girls arrived in late July under a cultural exchange scheme and were staying with a couple in their 50s before the fatal incident.
