A 14-year-old student at Grant Union High School in Sacramento was arrested for shooting a 17-year-old student in the school's parking lot.
The 17-year-old victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his arm.
Ramon Alejandro Williams, a security guard at the school, is credited with convincing the armed student to surrender his weapon.
The incident was targeted and there is no ongoing threat to the community, according to Sacramento Police Department.
