Overview
- Turkish officials said a Turkish Airlines flight carried 137 deportees to Istanbul, including 36 Turkish nationals and citizens of the United States, UAE, Algeria, Morocco, Italy, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritania, Switzerland, Tunisia and Jordan.
- Israel intercepted about 40 boats in the Global Sumud Flotilla and detained more than 450 people, and it says remaining detainees are safe as it moves to expedite further expulsions.
- Italy’s foreign minister said 26 Italians were on the flight to Istanbul and that 15 more remain in Israeli custody pending expulsion.
- Adalah and detainees allege denial of lawyers, water and medication and prolonged restraints; Sweden’s consular representative reported Greta Thunberg complained of dehydration, insufficient food and suspected bedbug rashes.
- Some activists alleged Thunberg was shoved, dragged and forced to wear or kiss an Israeli flag, accusations Israel called “complete lies,” as large protests in Italy continued with organisers claiming 2 million on strike and officials estimating 400,000.
