Overview
- A Toyota RAV4 and a Renault van collided on the M4 between junctions 16 and 17 at about 8pm on Saturday, July 18, and a 13-year-old passenger was later confirmed dead.
- A woman who was a passenger in the Toyota was taken to hospital with serious injuries, and neither driver was reported to be seriously hurt.
- Emergency crews including air ambulances attended the scene and the motorway’s westbound carriageway was closed while the eastbound was held to allow aircraft to land, causing local traffic disruption.
- Wiltshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team has launched an inquiry under log number 398 and is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to call 01225 694597 or email SCIT@wiltshire.police.uk.
- Officers have asked for privacy for the boy’s family as enquiries continue and investigators work to establish the sequence and cause of the collision.
