125 firefighters bring East Ham shop blaze under control

No casualties have been reported as the London Fire Brigade investigates the blaze’s origin

Overview

  • The fire started at about 7pm on Thursday at a shop with residential flats upstairs on High Street North in East Ham.
  • The London Fire Brigade mobilized 20 fire engines and around 125 firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow, Stratford and surrounding stations.
  • Flames affected half of the ground floor and part of the first floor before crews declared the blaze under control at 12:04am.
  • Firefighters deployed a 32-metre turntable ladder and have remained on site to damp down hotspots into Friday morning.
  • The high street remains closed and residents were asked to keep windows and doors shut due to lingering smoke.
