Overview
- The 120th completed its final tactical C-130H flight on Oct. 3, 2026, marking the end of 12 years operating the H-model in training and deployed missions.
- Two C-130Hs flew a two-ship formation over Montana and returned to Great Falls where firefighters greeted them with a ceremonial water salute and Col. Jason Green served as an aircraft commander.
- One H-model, tail 7325, has already moved to Joint Base San Antonio‑Lackland for use as a static training jet for Air Force basic training and three remaining aircraft are scheduled to depart Great Falls by the end of October 2026.
- The wing is preparing to receive its first C-130J Super Hercules in 2027, a model the 120th says adds new communications, SATCOM, improved situational awareness, greater cargo capacity and better speed and range.
- Since converting from fighters in 2013 the 120th flew global tactical airlift missions including four major combat deployments, and leaders say redistributing H-models to training roles and partner nations preserves capability while the wing retools for the J-model.
