12-Year-Old Skier Rescued Hours After Accident in Austrian Alps

The girl was found severely injured and hypothermic in a water-filled ditch after going off-piste in St. Johann, Tirol.

A 12-year-old girl from Bavaria went missing while skiing with her father in St. Johann, Austria, on Saturday afternoon.
She was last seen skiing approximately 100 meters ahead of her father before disappearing over a ridge around 1:45 PM.
Rescue teams, including the Alpine police and mountain rescue services, located her three hours later in a water-filled ditch, 200 meters downhill from where she was last seen.
The girl suffered multiple fractures, severe hypothermia, and was semi-conscious when found; she was airlifted to a hospital in Innsbruck.
Authorities believe the accident was caused by the girl veering off the marked ski trail, possibly due to excessive speed, with no evidence of foul play.
