Overview

• Unidentified assailants allegedly doused 45-year-old Ram Kalyan Mandal and his sleeping 12-year-old son Sunil Kumar Mandal with petrol before setting them ablaze on August 7.
• Neighbors and family members extinguished the flames and rushed the victims from Durgaganj Primary Health Centre to Katihar Sadar Hospital and finally to a burn unit in Bhagalpur.
• Sunil Kumar Mandal succumbed to his injuries on August 8, and his father continues to battle severe burns in Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital’s burn ward.
• Kadwa police have registered an FIR for murder and attempted murder and have detained one suspect for questioning in connection with the attack.
• Investigators suspect a mutual dispute motive and have called in the Forensic Science Laboratory team to gather evidence from the crime scene.
