12-Year-Old Dies After Falling Through Ice in Albany Park

An 11-year-old girl remains in critical condition after attempting to rescue the boy from the frozen lake in Washington Park, New York.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when the boy attempted to walk across the thin ice of Washington Park Lake in Albany, New York.
The girl, who tried to save him, also fell through the ice and was rescued by first responders; she is currently in critical condition at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
The boy’s body was recovered by the New York State Police dive team later that evening after an extensive search.
Albany officials emphasized the dangers of walking on thin ice and placed warning signs at the lake following the tragedy.
