11-Year-Old Rescued After Days Adrift Following Mediterranean Shipwreck

The girl, from Sierra Leone, is the sole survivor of a boat carrying 45 migrants that sank in a storm near Lampedusa, Italy.

The girl was found clinging to two improvised flotation devices made from tire inner tubes and a simple life jacket after three days at sea.
She was rescued by the German NGO-operated vessel Trotamar III, whose crew heard her cries for help in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The boat had departed from Sfax, Tunisia, carrying 45 migrants, all of whom are presumed dead except for the girl.
The girl was suffering from hypothermia but was responsive and has since been handed over to Italian authorities for care.
