11-Year-Old Girl Injured in Shark Attack at Hawaii Beach

The incident, marking Hawaii's first shark encounter of 2024, resulted in non-life-threatening injuries for the young swimmer.

An 11-year-old girl was bitten on her left foot by a shark at a popular surf spot known as 'Rainbows' in Ka‘a‘awa, Hawaii.
The shark attack occurred on Saturday, just before 1:30 p.m., and is the first recorded shark encounter in Hawaii for the year 2024.
Emergency services confirmed the girl's injuries were serious but not life-threatening, and her parents declined EMS transport to the hospital.
Witnesses reported seeing what appeared to be a small reef shark in the area at the time of the attack.
The incident follows a year that saw eight shark-related incidents in Hawaii, including a fatal attack on a surfer in Maui last December.
