11 Pakistani Soldiers, 19 Militants Killed in Orakzai Clash Near Afghan Border

Officials attribute the assault to Afghan-based sanctuaries with alleged Indian backing.

Overview

  • The army said an intelligence-based raid in Orakzai overnight on Oct. 7–8 led to a fierce firefight that left 11 soldiers and 19 militants dead.
  • Those killed included Lt. Col. Junaid and Maj. Tayyab Rahat, whom the military said were leading the operation.
  • The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for attacking troops, while some security officials described a convoy ambush in neighboring Kurram.
  • ISPR reported ongoing sanitisation operations in the area to clear remaining threats and recover weapons and explosives.
  • Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the forces and accused Afghan-based militants of operating with Indian support, as violence has surged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since the TTP ended a ceasefire in 2022.
