Overview

• The army said an intelligence-based raid in Orakzai overnight on Oct. 7–8 led to a fierce firefight that left 11 soldiers and 19 militants dead.
• Those killed included Lt. Col. Junaid and Maj. Tayyab Rahat, whom the military said were leading the operation.
• The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for attacking troops, while some security officials described a convoy ambush in neighboring Kurram.
