Overview

  • Öko-Test evaluated 26 high-SPF sunscreens using the new ISO 23675:2024 in-vitro method that avoids human skin testing.
  • Eleven products fell short of their claimed SPF, with ten delivering under 75% of promised protection and one testing below SPF 20.
  • The banned plasticizer DnHexP appeared in five creams, and one product contained enough to earn a “mangelhaft” rating.
  • Several sunscreens were flagged for containing Octocrylene and Homosalate, UV filters linked to hormonal and organ health concerns.
  • Two budget brands, Sun D’Or and Sundance, earned “very good” ratings and cost under €4 per 200 ml.
