- The majority of the migrants came from the West African nations of Senegal and Guinea, with others from Djibouti, Congo and Mauritania.
- Authorities did not disclose how the migrants arrived in Mexico, but it's known that African migrants often use Nicaragua as a transit point to reach the U.S. due to its lax visa requirements.
- Mexico’s immigration agency is currently processing the detained migrants in Oaxaca, but it's unclear if attempts will be made to return them to Africa.
