100,000 March in Madrid as Protesters Demand Arms Embargo and Break With Israel

Organizers ended the peaceful march by issuing a manifesto demanding sweeping sanctions on Israel.

Overview

  • Spain’s government delegation estimated about 100,000 people marched from Paseo del Prado/Atocha to Plaza de Callao between 18:00 and 21:00 without serious incidents.
  • Officials reported more than 10,000 participants in a separate demonstration in València that advanced the same demands.
  • The manifesto called for immediate humanitarian access to Gaza, a comprehensive arms embargo, a total rupture of political, economic and cultural relations, and support for international legal action.
  • Health Minister Mónica García and Youth and Children Minister Sira Rego attended alongside leaders from Sumar, Más Madrid and Podemos.
  • Chants and signs included “from the river to the sea” and a poster equating the Star of David with a swastika, and Madrid’s PSOE accused Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida of switching off city cameras to obscure turnout.
