10,000 Bodo Artistes Stage Bagurumba Spectacle in Guwahati Before PM Modi

Modi used the platform to urge global recognition for Assamese traditions.

  • The Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 performance took place on January 17 at the Sarusajai sports complex in Guwahati in the presence of the prime minister and state leaders.
  • Organisers fielded around 9,700 female dancers with nearly 1,500 male musicians, forming one of the largest Bagurumba ensembles to date.
  • During his address, Modi praised Bodo heritage, called for wider global recognition of Assam’s culture, and attacked the Congress over alleged support for infiltrators.
  • The showcase followed a structured build-up in which 25 experts trained 400 master trainers, district coaching ensued, and mass rehearsals ran from January 12; performers were drawn from 23 districts of Assam as well as West Bengal, Nagaland and Nepal.
  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced Rs 25,000 honoraria and two certificates for each artiste, with Rs 50,000 for master trainers and choreographers.
