10-Year-Old Intercepted Driving 125cc Scooter in Gondomar

The Guardia Civil has opened investigatory proceedings against the boy’s father for allegedly allowing an unlicensed minor to drive on a public road.

Overview

  • Traffic officers from the O Porriño detachment stopped a scooter on the EP-3102 and found a 10-year-old driving with his father as passenger, after which the vehicle was intervened and the occupants identified.
  • The Unidad de Investigación de Seguridad Vial of the Subsector de Pontevedra has launched investigatory diligences against the father for allegedly permitting a child without the required minimum age or administrative authorization to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Authorities stressed that a 125cc motorcycle requires training and reaction capacity that children lack, and that motorcycles offer limited protection in crashes, which raises serious safety concerns for the child and other road users.
  • The Guardia Civil warned that facilitating or consenting to underage driving can carry legal consequences for guardians and urged families to model safe behavior and citizens to report dangerous conduct on the roads.
  • Officials said they will continue stepped-up surveillance and control on provincial roads to prevent risky behavior and protect vulnerable users, reflecting routine enforcement patterns where adults are investigated rather than minors prosecuted.
