10-Foot Indian Rock Python Rescued From Mulund Housing Complex, Released Near SGNP

Forest Department approval enabled an intervention tied to monsoon-driven wildlife displacement at Mumbai’s urban–wildland edge.

Overview

  • Rescuers from the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare responded to a Mulund society after residents reported the large python during heavy rains.
  • The snake had climbed a tree and was stressed by onlookers, and RAWW said it could not exit the enclosed complex on its own.
  • The rescue proceeded with Forest Department approval, followed by a medical evaluation by veterinarian Dr. Priti Sathe, who declared the python fit.
  • The animal was released into suitable habitat in coordination with the Mumbai Range of the Thane Territorial Forest Department near the Sanjay Gandhi National Park periphery.
  • Separate weather-related calls saw a green vine snake rescued in Juhu and a juvenile rock python recovered at a Powai construction site, with both released after officials were informed.
