In 2022, Forbes reported that the ship was owned by Andrey Guryev. On Friday June 16, 2023, Alfa Nero was sold to former Google CEO Eric Schmidt for $67.6 million during an auction by the government of Antigua and Barbuda, after it had been abandoned there following the imposition of economic sanctions as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
