Mastani was either the daughter of Nizam Asaf Jah I of Hyderabad or Chhatrasal Bundela of Bundelkhand. She was the second wife of the Maratha Peshwa Baji Rao I. The marriage was arranged to promote diplomatic ties with the Maratha Empire. From Wikipedia
