This Week in Focus

I’m Ellie, Particle’s head of editorial and communications. 👋 Our weekly newsletter starts here — with context and perspective on the stories shaping the news.

It’s been 20 days since an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Good in Minneapolis, and tensions in the city — and around the country — have continued to rise since then. Over the weekend, another American citizen, Alex Pretti, was shot dead by a federal agent during a protest in Minneapolis. Late night hostscelebrities, and athletes are decrying Pretti’s killing and pressuring members of Congress to oppose ICE funding. Today, President Trump promised a “very honorable and honest investigation” into the Pretti shooting and First Lady Melania Trump said people should “protest in peace.” Meanwhile, the labor union representing 820,000 government employees demanded that DHS Secretary Kristi Noem resign and the White House border czar is heading to Minneapolis.

Read on for more on the fallout from ICE’s presence in Minneapolis and other top headlines from the week. Stay up-to-date on developing stories in the Particle app.
