Overview

  • The conflict began with Israel’s surprise June 13 airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites that killed IRGC commanders and nuclear scientists.
  • Iran fired over 270 ballistic missiles in return, including a fresh early Monday barrage that killed five Israeli civilians and wounded scores.
  • Israel expanded its bombing campaign to hit Iranian energy and command facilities, striking sites in Tehran, Isfahan and a refuelling aircraft near Mashhad.
  • Iran’s health ministry says at least 224 people have died in Iranian territory with most casualties civilians while a rights group estimates more than 400 fatalities.
  • G7 leaders and President Trump have urged diplomatic off-ramps even as oil prices remain elevated on concerns over damage to Iran’s energy infrastructure.
